The Day of Atonement

......Praise the Lord for the righteousness we have through Christ our great High Priest who "entered in once into the Holy Place having obtained eternal redemption for us."

"The Day of Atonement"

 As High Priest Aaron shed his robes
and donned an ephod clean and white,
 he must have thought on Him Who'd come
to turn man's Darkness into Light.

 Humbled thus, he washed himself
 many times throughout the day;
 his spotless cleaners spoke unto
 the One Who for our sins would pay.

Thinking on the Christ to come
alone into the Holy Place went he;
 to plead 'fore God for all their sin
And cover their iniquit'y.

 Later, as the people's sins
 upon the scapegoat's head were laid;
he thought on Him Who by His death
 would the pow'r of sin be stayed.
Then what joy divine was his
 as the silver trumpets blew,
proclaiming sin was all atoned
and peace with God begun anew.
 Now all of this did point to Christ
 Who'd not Atone, but Take Away
 our sin before a Holy God
 and in full it's debt to pay.
